5 Reasons Couples Choose A First Look

To first look or not to first look?

If you’re planning a wedding, chances are that you’ve heard the term “first look”. If you haven’t heard of it or you’re having trouble deciding, this is for you.

For those of you wondering what a first look is, it’s when the bride and groom see each other for the first time on the day of the wedding. It’s usually done in a quiet, private area where it’s just the two of them (and a couple photographers watching from afar!). This is opposed to the groom seeing the bride for the first time when she walks down the aisle.

About 90% of my couples request to do a first look instead of waiting for the wedding ceremony.

Wondering why? Here’s a handful of reasons why clients request and rave about first looks!

1. More Personal

This is by far the most common reason for a first look. Couples love sharing that moment between the two of them. First looks are more personal, intimate and get the best reactions!

2. More Time To Mingle With Guests

After the ceremony everyone wants to go unwind and celebrate! Having a first look allows you to take photos before wedding. This means you don’t have to worry about wrangling the troops for family photos after and you get a longer cocktail hour with your guests!

3. Zero Pressure

Without everyone watching and waiting for reactions, you can relax and focus on the two of you and not everyone else’s expectations.

4. More Time Together On The Wedding Day

This is my favorite reason for a first look and one of the reasons I personally chose one on my wedding day. After all that planning, it feels great to enjoy it together.

5. Get Rid Of Those “Pre-Wedding” Jitters

All of that anticipation can make couples nervous and anxious. (I personally know I was!) Once that moment is over, couples can relax, steal kisses and enjoy the day together.
