Kate & Mychal’s Duluth Engagement Session

Kate described her and Mychal as old souls which resonated with me right away. They met online and after a bunch of back and forth communication Kate took the reins and asked him to meet her for coffee. She told me she thought it would be a fairly quick coffee date but little did she know, it would last 9 hours! Talk about an instant connection! Fast Forward 2 years, they are engaged, buying a house and planning the perfect wedding in Mychal’s hometown of Ely, MN.

Kate and Mychal flew in from the state of Virginia for their engagement session in Duluth by that big lake we all know and love. Thankfully the Minnesota winter didn’t scare them away and they may have brought some warm weather with them because it was a beautiful day.

Prior to this session I had never met them so I was filled with excitement and little bit of nerves. Billy (my husband) has called these my excited nerves because they happen before every single wedding or session. He’s told me that if I wasn’t nervous, my heart wasn’t in it enough and I couldn’t agree more. I’m so passionate about moments like these and telling each couples story through the photos I take.

As I was walking greet them they saw me and smiled the biggest, sweetest, most genuine smiles and I knew this session was going to amazing. And let me tell you, it was. The chemistry between these two is unreal and I may have went home to my husband gushing about how much I adore these two.

We started out at Fitger’s, visited the Boat Club, wandered along the lake and snuck into a balcony so that these two could have a moment together and get a good view of the lake. The session flowed seamlessly and I could’ve kept shooting for hours but unfortunately the days are just not long enough here in the winter. So I’ll be counting down the days until September when I witness Kate and Mychal promise forever.
