So you have the camera, lenses, lighting and all the practice, now your wondering what to wear as a wedding photographer, right? Wonder no more.
I remember searching blogs, Pinterest and the good ole google machine when I first started shooting, wondering what the heck should I wear?! (cue the last minute trips to express and J-crew!)
Everywhere I looked it said “dress like you’re a guest at the wedding”. Okay, that’s all fine and dandy but as a guest I’m usually wearing a shorter, cute dress and attending with my handsome hubs. Wedding photography is more like a series of crouching tiger, hidden dragon so that short dress? It’s a no go. So here are a few outfit ideas that I use to dress comfortably and professionally on a wedding day.
1.) Maxi Dress
All hail the maxi dress. It’s comfy, breathable and looks adorable! I love this option for summer weddings!
2.) Biz Casual
Sound boring? I think not! My go-to for business casual is a capri dress pant and dress shirt/tank. It looks good and you’re still super comfortable. (Check out the Lexie pant from J-crew, I’m slightly obsessed and have a tendency to wear mine out they are so comfy!)
3.) Dressy, kinda.
Long skirt and dress shirt/tank allows for cutest combos. Who ever made the rule that we all need to wear black anyway?! I love to mix it up with dark skirts and patterned shirts.
If you’re thinking, I have my outfit nailed, now what do I wear for shoes?! I switch between a combo of (mostly) flats, boots and wedges. While I could list the brands I swear by, I believe all of our achy feet are different so find something that if comfy and works for you! I always keep an extra pair of flats in my car, just in case!
My favorite stores to shop for wedding outfits are:
J-crew – Lexie pant is da BEST!
Express
Old Navy – so many cute, affordable tops!
Francescas
Stitch Fix – they always send me the best outfits! I’ve been using them for years and I’m always complimented on the pieces I’ve bought from them.
Good luck out there, I know you’re going to look amazing!

Kirsten
